Family-owned Kreling Chrysanthemums on their sustainability initiatives

This year, family company Kreling Chrysanthemums won the Horticultural Entrepreneur Prize. This award is given to businesses in the horticulture sector who excel in entrepreneurship. Kreling Chrysanthemums excels in continuous innovation in robotisation and sustainability initiatives, pays attention to environmental engagement through a 'horticulture barometer' and has a strong and unique business structure. "We are actually not into this kind of thing ourselves at all. It was recommended to us and we decided to go ahead with it. At the time we thought 'it's just going to be a nomination and we're not going to win just like that'. That we still won was a real surprise. As a company, we are very much into innovation, sustainability and being a good employer. You have to or else you won't exist in a few years. We do not innovate on our own but seek to collaborate with growers in the region. For example, we are now looking at rolling out a heat network. Fortunately, there are many entrepreneurs in our area who really understand the importance of investing in sustainability, as it is almost impossible to set up such projects on your own".
