Logistics is the enabler that keeps our cooperative future-proof

‘Wapen je tegen cybercriminelen’

Every day, millions of flowers and plants from more than 70 countries come to Royal FloraHolland in the Netherlands to be traded through its logistics platform. They come via air and sea freight, but most come by road. An incredible feat that logistics service providers deliver together every day. They ensure that our growers' products get from A to B on time and in good condition.

Royal FloraHolland is betting on international growth with its 2030 strategy. This also makes transport more international. This can be via air or sea freight and makes logistics more exposed to geopolitical developments and international laws and regulations. To create and maintain an efficient and sustainable chain, the right conditions must be in place. That is what the Public Affairs department at Royal FloraHolland is working on.

They maintain a network with relevant logistics parties and governments, monitor current developments and translate their impact on the floriculture chain. Consider, for example, the Red Sea crisis and the impact on sea freight from East Africa.

Ja, zelfs mij, iemand die élke dag bezig is met digitale

beveiliging, overkwam het. Het gebeurde toen ik via een online webshop tickets kocht voor een festival. Digitaal ongeluk zit soms in een onverwachte hoek, zullen we maar zeggen. Ik ben niet de enige. Sterker nog: van iedereen die online aanwezig is – zakelijk of privé – zijn waarschijnlijk al weleens gegevens gestolen. Via Dropbox, LinkedIn, Adobe via een online account van een krant of vakblad of via het digitale formulier van de autogarage. Als ergens de beveiliging niet goed op orde is, kan het zomaar misgaan. Grote bedrijven, kleine bedrijven, particulieren – ieders gegevens zijn voor cybercriminelen interessant. Spannend? Misschien. Maar weet ook: je kunt jezelf hier heel goed tegen wapenen.

Tijdens de Dag van de Coöperatie op 11 december geef ik een workshop over dit onderwerp, samen met onze partner Passguard. Belangrijk, want diefstal en doorverkoop van gegevens is een serieuze business geworden. Je kunt niet altijd voorkomen dat je gegevens op het darkweb belanden. Maar je kunt het wel als serieus risico behandelen. Hoe je dat doet, vertel ik graag tijdens de Dag van de Coöperatie. Alvast een tip voor de komende maanden: stap over op tweestapsverificatie voor je online accounts. Je stelt dit eenvoudig in via je online profielen. Bij tweestapsverificatie log je in met twee sleutels, bijvoorbeeld een wachtwoord en een app. Is je wachtwoord gestolen? Dan staat de digitale dief nog steeds voor een gesloten deur.

Vanuit Royal FloraHolland waken we over de digitale veiligheid van de sierteeltsector. Van kwekers tot en met kopers en alles ertussenin. Als coöperatie staan wij er middenin. We strijden voor een digitaal weerbare keten. Met ondernemers en

bedrijven die goed op de hoogte zijn van gevaren en risico’s. En, belangrijker nog, die weten wat ze ertegen kunnen doen. Daarover praten we je graag eind dit jaar bij. Je hoort dan ook over het RFH Cyberabonnement en andere manieren waarop we onze leden online ondersteunen. Zo staan we samen sterk tegen cybercriminaliteit.

For stakeholders, they highlight the characteristics of floriculture logistics and address issues. At an international air cargo conference in Belgium this year, for example, they drew attention to the dire air cargo capacity situation in Kenya. In advocating for our sector, they often join forces with other interest groups (including VNO-NCW and Evofenedex). It is more effective to join forces on common issues, such as air freight.

In addition to the focus on international logistics, it is equally important to ensure that the local role as a logistics hub in our hub regions is maintained. And also on connections within Europe. After all, logistics activities have an impact on the local environment, such as noise and use of space. We work well with local authorities such as municipalities and provinces on this issue and, as Royal FloraHolland, take an active role in promoting more sustainable transport within the possibilities available in the region. This is to ensure that our physical platform, with logistics as its enabler, remains future-proof.
